Services: I provide a free initial consultation to discuss my services and to get to know each other. Once service has been reserved, I schedule 1-2 prenatal visits depending on your due date. During these visits, we discuss your wishes for your birth, various pain management techniques, choice of birth place, and any plans for birth and postpartum. I offer unlimited time throughout labor at any site - hospital, birth center, or your home. I attend birth in hospitals, birth centers, and at home. I remain with the birthing family for about 2 hours postpartum and assist with breastfeeding. I visit each family 1 week after birth to discuss any questions/thoughts/feelings the birthing family may have about the birth. I am available for consultation throughout the first month following birth. I stock a lending library for clients to check out books to read and videos to watch on pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, parenting, and siblings.
Qualifications: I have an AA degree in Psychology. I am working on certification through DONA (Doulas of North America) and am a member of CAPPA (Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association). I have been involved with birth since 1996 and attending births since 2001. I am a breastfeeding educator and am currently completing work towards sitting the IBCLC (Internation Board Certified Lactation Consultant) exam in two years. I am a member of the Quad Cities Doula Association and La Leche League.
Personal notes: I am a mother of three and wife to a Palmer College of Chiropractic student. I have a very natural view of birth. I feel that if a woman is allowed to go about normal activities, she will birth her baby with few or no interventions or medications. However, this is your birth and what you choose I will honor. I work with the family to create an enviroment that is comforting to the birthing woman and welcoming to the baby. This is your birth and I will do what you want me to do to help make this an event you will look back on with joy. Please contact me with any questions.
